A non-surgical answer to thinning hair, a receding hairline, transplant scarring or full pattern baldness — delivered personally by Alex McKenzie at our studio in Halesowen, on the edge of Birmingham.
Scalp micropigmentation places thousands of tiny pigment impressions into the upper layer of the scalp, each one matched to the size, depth and scatter of a real follicle. Done properly, the result reads as a close-cropped buzzcut — or as genuine density filling in a thinning crown — rather than as a treatment someone has had.
It’s the detail that separates good SMP from obvious SMP. Dots placed too deep spread and blur over time. Placed too uniformly, they read as a pattern. Matched to the wrong undertone, they drift blue or grey as they age. Getting all three right, on your skin, is the whole job.

Most people arrive with one of these four. The approach is the same — map it, build it gradually, keep it honest — but what we’re building differs considerably in each case.
A receded or absent hairline rebuilt to suit your face rather than a template. We map the shape against your bone structure and age, then soften the front edge so it never reads as a hard line — the single biggest tell of rushed SMP work.
If you still have hair but the scalp shows through, we place pigment between the existing strands to close the contrast gap. Your own hair does most of the work; the pigment simply stops the light getting through. Ideal for diffuse thinning and open crowns.
FUT strip scars, FUE dot scarring, and scars from injury or surgery. Scar tissue takes pigment differently to healthy scalp, so this is slower, more cautious work — usually tested on a small area first before we commit to the full length.
Transplant scarsFrom patchy areata to full alopecia totalis. For patchy loss we blend the edges so the boundary between hair and scalp stops being visible; for total loss we build a full shadow across the head. We’ll be straight with you about what suits an unpredictable pattern.
SMP for alopeciaFemale hair loss is usually about density rather than recreating a shaved look — closing a widening parting or a sparse hairline by working between the hair you already have. Nothing is shaved, and your styling routine is unchanged. Delivered by Leaona Marie.
SMP for womenThin results, a hairline that sits wrong, or grafts that never really took. SMP can’t undo a transplant, but it can fix the things that make a poor one look poor — the contrast, the sparse density and the donor scarring at the back.

SMP is built in layers, not applied in one go. That’s deliberate — it lets us check how your skin holds pigment before committing to depth or density, and it’s the reason our work still looks right three years in.
We look at your scalp under proper light, talk through what you’re hoping for, and design a hairline you can actually see before anything is booked. No pressure, no deposit taken on the day.
The foundation layer — placement mapped out, pigment kept deliberately light. You’ll leave with a visible result that looks slightly sharp and slightly red; both settle within a couple of days.
Usually one or two more, spaced 7–14 days apart. We add depth and density where the first pass has settled, adjusting tone as we go. This is where the result stops looking applied and starts looking real.
Clear written aftercare, minimal downtime, and a standing invitation to come back if anything looks off. Most clients return for a top-up somewhere between two and five years later.
