I’m Alex McKenzie, and I’ve spent the last ten years doing one thing: making scalp micropigmentation look like real hair. If you’ve been thinking about it, come in for a chat. No pressure, no sales talk, just an honest look at whether it’s right for you.

We’ll pick you up from the airport.
Based in the UK
Come to the Birmingham studio, or we’ll come to you.
We’re a private SMP studio on the outskirts of Birmingham, working with men and women who are losing their hair and want it to look like they’re not. Some clients want the close-cropped buzzcut look. Others want their crown to fill in so the scalp stops showing through. Whichever it is, the goal is always the same: when someone meets you, they shouldn’t be able to tell you’ve had anything done.
SMP is what we built our name on. The laser side covers the rest of the things our clients ask about while they’re here.
For thinning hair, a receding hairline, full pattern baldness, hair transplant scars or alopecia. We map a hairline to suit your face, build density gradually, and adjust the pigment as we go so the result reads as actual follicles, not dots. Includes hairline tattoo work and SMP training for new artists.
Explore SMPLaser hair removal for body and face, tattoo removal, teeth whitening, and lesion removal for things like skin tags and milia. Same studio, same standards, same person making sure it’s the right call before you book.
Explore laserEvery one of these is a real client. None of them are stock photos, and nothing has been retouched.
Most of my clients say the same thing afterwards, they stop thinking about their hair. That peace of mind is exactly what I aim to give.
Two clients explaining what their treatment actually felt like, in their own words.
“Sending a big thank you to Alex. My hair looks great, so natural looking. I went for a darker look to go with my tan and it looks great in all lights. If you want a natural looking SMP, use Alex!!”
“Went along with my son to get his SMP, well done Alex, a dedicated and professional young man. My son over the moon with results, so nice to not see him wearing caps. Looks so natural, definitely 5 stars and more.”
Four stages, no rush, no obligation to book on the day. Most people spend longer thinking about it than they do actually getting it done.
You send us a message or come in for a chat. We look at what’s going on with your hair, talk about what you want, and decide together if SMP is the right call. Sometimes it isn’t, and we’ll tell you.
Once we know what we’re working with, we map a hairline that suits your face and your age. You get a clear price upfront for everything, including any follow-up sessions.
Most people need two or three sessions, spaced a few weeks apart. Each one builds on the last, refining density and depth. Alex does every session himself.
You leave with written aftercare and our number. If anything’s off in the days after, we’d rather you message us than worry about it. We’re around for top-ups years down the line too.
SMP is a good trade if you’ve got the patience for it. Move the slider to see what the maths looks like at different client volumes, then read on for what the course actually involves. If it’s a fit, we’ll send you the full brochure.
I run a few of these every year, and I keep the groups small on purpose. You get hands-on time with me, real models, and the kind of feedback that’s hard to come by online.
Based on a £1,000 starter rate per client, what new artists typically charge while building a portfolio. Established SMP artists charge significantly more. What you actually earn depends on where you’re based, how you market yourself, and how full your diary is. We’ll go through the realistic version when you come in.
Hair Savvy is a small studio just outside Birmingham, run by Alex McKenzie. Alex started doing SMP after going through hair loss himself, which is probably why he takes it so seriously. Ten years in, the studio has grown but the way we work hasn’t really changed.
SMP isn’t surgery and it doesn’t grow new hair, but done well it gets close enough that most people can’t tell. There are plenty of places in Birmingham offering it. Pick one where the person doing the work has done it a few hundred times before.
