Get your hairline back with SMP.

I’m Alex McKenzie, and I’ve spent the last ten years doing one thing: making scalp micropigmentation look like real hair. If you’ve been thinking about it, come in for a chat. No pressure, no sales talk, just an honest look at whether it’s right for you.

Alex McKenzie, founder of Hair Savvy Studio

Scalp Micropigmentation Birmingham.

We’re a private SMP studio on the outskirts of Birmingham, working with men and women who are losing their hair and want it to look like they’re not. Some clients want the close-cropped buzzcut look. Others want their crown to fill in so the scalp stops showing through. Whichever it is, the goal is always the same: when someone meets you, they shouldn’t be able to tell you’ve had anything done.

Every one of these is a real client. None of them are stock photos, and nothing has been retouched.

Most of my clients say the same thing afterwards, they stop thinking about their hair. That peace of mind is exactly what I aim to give.

How It Works

From first message to walking out confident.

Four stages, no rush, no obligation to book on the day. Most people spend longer thinking about it than they do actually getting it done.

01

Free Consultation

You send us a message or come in for a chat. We look at what’s going on with your hair, talk about what you want, and decide together if SMP is the right call. Sometimes it isn’t, and we’ll tell you.

02

Tailored Plan

Once we know what we’re working with, we map a hairline that suits your face and your age. You get a clear price upfront for everything, including any follow-up sessions.

03

The Sessions

Most people need two or three sessions, spaced a few weeks apart. Each one builds on the last, refining density and depth. Alex does every session himself.

04

Aftercare & Support

You leave with written aftercare and our number. If anything’s off in the days after, we’d rather you message us than worry about it. We’re around for top-ups years down the line too.

SMP Training

Become an SMP artist.

SMP is a good trade if you’ve got the patience for it. Move the slider to see what the maths looks like at different client volumes, then read on for what the course actually involves. If it’s a fit, we’ll send you the full brochure.

What’s Included

What you actually get on the course.

I run a few of these every year, and I keep the groups small on purpose. You get hands-on time with me, real models, and the kind of feedback that’s hard to come by online.

  • 3 full days of in-person training (9am to 6pm)
  • Small groups so you actually get attention
  • Live model practice, fully supervised
  • Accredited Savvy Academy certificate
  • A free shadow session after you’ve finished
  • Discounted insurance and a vetted supplier list
  • Ongoing access to me when you start treating clients

Based on a £1,000 starter rate per client, what new artists typically charge while building a portfolio. Established SMP artists charge significantly more. What you actually earn depends on where you’re based, how you market yourself, and how full your diary is. We’ll go through the realistic version when you come in.

About Us

About Hair Savvy Studio.

Hair Savvy is a small studio just outside Birmingham, run by Alex McKenzie. Alex started doing SMP after going through hair loss himself, which is probably why he takes it so seriously. Ten years in, the studio has grown but the way we work hasn’t really changed.

SMP isn’t surgery and it doesn’t grow new hair, but done well it gets close enough that most people can’t tell. There are plenty of places in Birmingham offering it. Pick one where the person doing the work has done it a few hundred times before.
