A widening parting, a scalp that shows in bright light, a hairline that’s crept back from years of tight styling. Female SMP works with the hair you already have — delivered by Leaona Marie in a private, unhurried studio.
Almost everything written about SMP online describes recreating the look of a closely shaved head. That is not what female SMP is, and it’s the single biggest misunderstanding women arrive with.
For women, SMP is density work. Pigment goes into the scalp between the hairs you already have, at follicle scale, closing the contrast gap that lets pale scalp show through thinning hair. Your own hair is untouched and stays exactly as it is. What changes is that light stops passing straight through to the skin underneath — so the parting reads narrower, the crown looks fuller, and the hairline stops looking sparse.
You style your hair exactly as you did before. Nothing about your routine changes. The difference is that the moments that used to make you self-conscious — overhead lighting, a photo taken from above, wet hair after swimming — stop being a problem.

Female SMP at Hair Savvy Studio is carried out by Leaona Marie, our SMP Artist and Laser Practitioner. Leaona trained personally under Alex McKenzie and has developed a particular talent for exactly the work female clients need — soft, natural hairlines and careful density building.
It’s deliberate that she leads this side of the studio. A lot of women tell us they’d put off looking into SMP because everything about it felt aimed at men. Having a female practitioner who does this work daily, and who understands what a widening parting actually feels like to live with, changes that conversation entirely.
Clients describe her as warm, focused and unhurried — the kind of practitioner who listens properly and makes you feel at ease even if it’s your first time in a treatment chair. She also delivers laser hair removal for women at the studio.
More about the teamFemale hair loss rarely looks like male hair loss. It’s usually diffuse rather than patterned, and it shows up in specific places — the parting, the crown, the temples.
SMP is cosmetic, not medical. It doesn’t regrow hair or slow hair loss down. If your hair loss is recent, rapid, or came on alongside other symptoms, please see your GP first — female hair loss has treatable causes including thyroid issues and iron deficiency, and those are worth ruling out before you spend money on a cosmetic treatment.
It works with your hair, not instead of it. Density work needs some existing hair to sit between. Where hair loss is total, we build full coverage instead — a different approach, and one we’ll explain properly at consultation.
Female density work is deliberately understated. We build in light layers, which means the change arrives quietly — most clients find people notice they look well without working out why.
Leaona looks at your scalp under proper light, matches pigment tone to your natural hair colour, and talks through what’s realistic. Unhurried, private, and no pressure to book on the day.
The foundation layer, kept deliberately light — typically starting at the parting or the area that bothers you most. You’ll see a difference immediately; any redness settles within a day or two.
Usually one or two more, 7–14 days apart. We add depth where the first pass has settled and fine-tune the tone. Building slowly is what keeps the result subtle rather than obvious.
Written aftercare, minimal downtime, and an open door if anything looks off. Most clients return for a top-up somewhere between two and five years later.
Female hair loss is talked about far less than male hair loss, and a lot of women tell us they’d been quietly dealing with it for years before looking into options. The studio is set up with that in mind.
Every result below was built one careful session at a time, on a real client, in this studio.
Tell us what you’ve noticed and how long it’s been going on — a photo helps if you’re comfortable sending one. Leaona will come back with clear, honest information and a sensible next step. No pressure, and no follow-up chasing.
