What is SMP for alopecia?
Scalp micropigmentation uses carefully placed pigment to create the visual impression of hair follicles. It does not grow hair and it is not a cure for alopecia. Instead, it is a cosmetic treatment designed to reduce the visual contrast between the scalp and surrounding hair or to recreate the appearance of closely cropped hair where hair is absent.

Can SMP work for alopecia?
It can, but the answer is not the same for every type of alopecia. Patchy hair loss, more extensive loss and total hair loss can present very different treatment considerations.

What can SMP achieve?

What happens at an SMP consultation?

How many SMP sessions will you need?

Sessions are normally built progressively rather than trying to achieve the final density in one appointment. This allows the artist to assess how the pigment settles and refine the result.
What should you expect after treatment?
Immediately after SMP, the treated area can look darker and sharper than the final healed result. Mild redness or tenderness can also occur. As the skin heals, the appearance softens and the pigment settles.

Is SMP a cure for alopecia?
No. SMP is a cosmetic treatment. It does not treat the underlying cause of alopecia, stimulate hair growth or prevent future hair loss.
